"Scuba diving in a time of a global pandemic" — what does that even mean? During lockdown, recreational divers faced severe limits on their favourite activity, and the club got creative about coping with it.
Some people took to wearing their scuba gear while out running essential errands, half joke and half genuine attempt to fight off the withdrawal symptoms of not being able to dive. Those with home pools kept their skills sharp with skin diving practice, while others with nothing but a bathtub had to settle for climbing into their gear in the bathroom, just to remember a little of what it felt like to get wet in a wetsuit.
On the training side, lockdown didn't have to mean standing still — divers could still study the theory for various courses online. Those dives can be banked with Scubaversity, and as soon as restrictions lift, it's straight out on one heck of a diving trip to finalise those courses.
Here's hoping lockdown ends soon so we can all get back in the water. Keep an eye on Scubaversity's social media for updates and news on upcoming dive trips.
