One of my top ten dive experiences, #scubaversitydiveclub edition.
It was June 2018, and the water was icy cold because the Sardine Run was underway. There was activity everywhere against beautiful, flat calm waters at Aliwal Shoal. Our launch was surrounded by whales, dolphins, and bait balls thick with birds diving in to feed.
We dropped into the water at Cathedral dive site, and the visibility was a perfect blue at around 30 metres. I made my way to the bottom and sat there with about 25 sharks for ten minutes.
That wasn't even the best part.
On the slow ascent we ran into a bull shark, hammerheads, and a manta ray.
That still wasn't the best part.
We made our way slowly towards Raggies Cave, over the shallower part of the reef at around 15 metres. That's when the best moment of the dive happened — and because I had my brand new GoPro rolling, I got to keep it forever. What a breathtaking experience. If you ever see the footage with the volume up, you'll hear me screaming like a little girl underwater.
